Marmoleum is the brand name for a type of natural linoleum flooring made primarily from linseed oil, pine resin, and wood flour. Produced by Forbo Flooring Systems, Marmoleum is known for its durability, sustainability, and wide variety of colors and designs.

How Marmoleum is made

The manufacturing process uses natural, climate-positive raw materials and traditional techniques.

  • Linseed oil and pine rosin are mixed in boilers to create a binding agent called "linoleum cement".

  • This cement is stored for up to two weeks until it achieves the correct elasticity.

  • Wood flour, limestone, and natural pigments are added to create a homogeneous, colorful mixture.

  • This material is then pressed onto a natural jute backing.

  • The finished sheets are cured in special drying chambers for several weeks, then given a protective, UV-cured finish.
